Bear Kills 11-Year-Old After Dragging Boy From Tent

AMERICAN FORK, Utah "? An 11-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a black bear as he slept in a tent with his family, police said.
The boy, sleeping alone in a section of the large tent, screamed before he was dragged away in his sleeping bag Sunday night in a canyon about 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, said sheriff's Lt. Dennis Harris.
The boy's body was found about 400 yards from the tent in the direction of another campsite where a bear sighting had been reported earlier in the weekend, Harris said.
Authorities were searching for the bear Monday.
American Fork Canyon is a popular camping destination. Harris said the family was camping about two miles up a dirt road from a popular campground.

Seriously though, I'm surprised there are not more, as we attempt to restore the bear population to an already depleted habitat that is full of human activities such as camping and hunting. Bears tend to shun humans in general, so there may have been something wrong with this one..

I think if I were going into bear country, I'd have Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson, the .50 cal twins, at my side.

a black bear did this? thats pretty hard to believe. now i know im an ugly man but this past turkey season i ran up on one behind my house and scared it so bad it rolled down a hill about 35 yards. i ran the opposite direction of course. haha
Cant we all just get along?
They will go out and find a bear and kill it and it most likely won't even be the one that did it, just to make people happy that they got it.
Shouldn't have been sleeping with the donuts.
